This is the second decrease in two years, as last year there was also a corresponding horizontal decrease again of 5%
The Municipality of Athens will proceed with a new horizontal reduction of 5% of municipal cleaning and lighting fees. This is what the Municipal Council decided today, following a proposal by Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis. This is the second reduction in two years, as last year there was also a corresponding horizontal reduction again of 5%.
“We made our commitment a reality, returning to the citizens the proper management of finances,” said Mr. Bakoyannis and added: “Last year we reduced municipal fees by 5%. We are doing the same this year, giving yet another important breath to the households and professionals of the city, who in recent years have been tested by successive crises. There has never been such a big cut in the history of the Municipality of Athens and its achievement certifies that we are working, ensuring a better present and future for all Athenians”.
In detail, the proposal foresees a reduction of the residential rate to 1.40 euros/m² per year and in terms of the rates of other spaces (professional), the reduction for retail activities other than food, etc. to 4.97 euros/TM per year, the reduction for premises with services provided activities other than financial institutions, etc. to 4.75 euros/MT per year, the reduction for other professional activities of the rate to 5.58 euros/MT.
At the same time, the Municipal Authority will continue to contribute to easing the family budgets of vulnerable social groups, maintaining a series of exemptions. More specifically, it was decided to keep:
– Exemption from cleaning and lighting fees for the first residence of families with multiple children with an annual total family income, real or imputed, cleared during the tax year preceding the year of inclusion, up to the amount of 25,000 euros, increased by 10,000 euros for the third child, 8,000 euros for the fourth child, 6,000 euros for the fifth child and 5,000 euros for each child beyond the fifth.
– Exemption from cleaning and lighting fees for the first residence of three children with annual total family income, real or imputed, settled in the tax year preceding the year of inclusion, up to the amount of 25,000 euros, increased by 10,000 euros for the third child, i.e. a total of 35,000 euros.
– Exemption from cleaning and lighting fees for the first home of the needy, as defined by current legislation.
– The reduction of cleaning and lighting fees by 50% for the first residence of the disabled with a disability rate of 80% or more, and with an annual total family income, real or imputed cleared during the tax year preceding the year of inclusion, up to the amount of 20,000 euro.
