Mr. Skrekas was accompanied by the President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Stavros Kafounis and met shopkeepers, workers and consumers
“Discounts are displayed in a correct way, so that the consumer can understand and compare the prices of the products in relation to the previous period. We have seen a discount rate that exceeds 50%, which is very important at a time when inflation is plaguing Greek households” said, among others, the Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas during his today’s visit to the shops in the center of Athens in view of the Black Friday sales.
Mr. Skrekas was accompanied by the President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Stavros Kafounis and met shopkeepers, workers and consumers. He discussed with them the problems they face in the everyday life of the market, traffic in commercial stores ahead of the festive season, the government’s initiatives to support businesses and consumers, the upcoming winter sales.
The minister also referred to the successful progress of the government initiative “Permanent Price Reduction” as well as the need to respect the legislation on offers and discounts. Legislation which, as he said, ensures the orderly operation of healthy competition and protects the consumer public.
After the end of the visit the minister stated:
“We visited today with the president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce shops in the center of Athens, in order to see the size of the offers.
We control how prices and offers are displayed. We find that the whole market has responded to the new law of our government. The discounts are displayed in a correct way so that the consumer can understand and compare the prices of the products in relation to the previous period.
We saw a discount rate that exceeds 50%, which is very important at a time when inflation is plaguing Greek households. It is an opportunity for consumers, starting today and for the next few days, to be able to buy the products they are interested in at very low prices.”
Mr. Skrekas also pointed out: “The checks are ongoing. We at the relevant ministry, throughout the previous period, have proceeded with the pricing of thousands of products, in order to compare with the prices announced today and to establish whether the offers are real or not. It appears that so far the trade is responding and complying with the Fair Trade Marks Act.’
