The enthronement ceremony of the new Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Filotheos, will be held with all solemnity today at 5 pm, in the Cathedral of God’s Wisdom, in the presence of the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Mr. Ieronymos.

At the enthronement of the new pastor of Thessaloniki the prime minister and the government will be represented by minister of state, Makis Voridis. They are also expected to attend Deputy Minister of Macedonia – ThraceStathis Konstantinidis, o president of PASOK – KINALNikos Androulakis, party representatives, MPs, o the regional governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, elected members of the Local Government, representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, metropolitans from Northern Greece, a delegation from Mount Athos, representatives of military authorities and a multitude of believers.

The solemn events will be completed on Sunday, November 26, at 7 am, with the liturgy and the high priestly liturgy at the pilgrimage church of Agios Dimitrios – Poliouchos. After the end of the divine service, the metropolitan will accept the wishes of the clergy and people.

The Bishop of Oreon Filotheos was elected the new Metropolitan of Thessaloniki by the Holy Synod of the hierarchy of the Church of Greece with a large majority, as the successor of Metropolitan Anthimos, who after 19 years of pastoral ministry submitted his resignation last August and is now complacent. He was chief secretary of the Holy Synod and undertakes as the new Metropolitan of Thessaloniki to continue the work of his predecessors. Theoharis Theoharis was born on July 9, 1977 in Chalkida.

Traffic arrangements in the city center for the enthronement

For the enthronement, traffic regulations have been implemented in the center of the city, as announced by the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki.

Specifically, the buses heading to the Holy Temple of God Sophia will follow a route through Egnatia – Ethnikis Amyni – Tsimiski streets, while the disembarkation of the faithful will take place at the junction of Tsimiski and Agia Sophia streets.

In addition, in order to avoid traffic accidents and traffic congestion, after disembarking the faithful, the buses will move through Salaminos – Admiral Kountouriotou streets and then park at the port of Thessaloniki.
