A total of 243 calls, mainly for tree cutting and relief, were received by the Fire Service Operations Center from yesterday, Saturday, until 7 am today, due to gale-force winds, heavy rains and storms, as well as snowfall in parts of the country.

Specifically:

  • In the Attica Region, 61 calls were made and 38 tree fellings and 23 object removals were carried out.
  • In the Region of Central Macedonia, 23 calls were made and 21 tree fellings were carried out and 43 passengers of a tourist bus which had stopped due to heavy snowfall at the T/K Kerasia Florina were transported to a safe place.
  • In the Region of Western Macedonia, 7 calls were made and 6 tree fellings were carried out and 11 people were transported to a safe place when their vehicles were immobilized due to heavy snowfall.
  • In the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, 12 calls and 3 tree cuttings were carried out
  • In the Region of Thessaly, 5 calls were made and 4 trees were cut down
  • In the Region of Western Greece, 24 calls were made and 21 tree fellings and 2 object removals were carried out.
  • In the Region of Central Greece, 12 calls were made and 10 trees were cut down.
  • In the Ionian Islands Region 20 calls and 18 tree fellings and 1 object removal.
  • In the Peloponnese Region, 18 calls were made and 14 tree fellings and 3 object removals were carried out.
  • In the Region of Epirus, 17 calls were made and 16 trees were cut down
  • In the Northern Aegean Region, 16 calls were made and 9 tree cuttings were carried out.
  • In the South Aegean Region, 12 calls were made and 4 tree fellings and 3 object removals were carried out.
  • In the Region of Crete, 16 calls were made and 10 trees were cut down.

It is recalled that, according to the updated Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin (EDEK) issued yesterday Saturday, November 25, 2023 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the Emergency Weather Deterioration Bulletin issued on 11-24-2023, was updated according to the latest forecasts data in an Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena, due to the significant and rapid deepening of the barometric low Bettina that formed in the Adriatic and is moving towards our country, with the main characteristics of very stormy winds in almost the entire country and locally strong rains and storms mainly in the west, the north and the eastern and southern insular Greece.

The Fire Department appeals to citizens to be especially careful and in the event of weather phenomena to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
