Gale force winds of up to 11 Beaufort caused tremendous seas with waves up to 12 meters on land
In an emergency situation has requested that the Kassandra in Halkidiki, the mayor Anastasia Chalkia, as the passage of bad weather has caused huge damages in several areas on the coastal front. The mayor, speaking to APE-MPE, reports that there has been extensive damage that must be immediately repaired.
“The most damage was done in Siviri, Polychrono, Pefkohori and Paliouri, where a road collapsed, while in Hanioti the waves even covered the pedestrian street. The waves were so huge that even the older residents told me that they had never seen anything like it before,” notes Ms. Chalkia.
The stormy winds that reached 11 Beaufort caused a terrible sea disturbance with the waves, as Ms. Chalkia says, reaching up to twelve meters on land, while she points out that luckily no one was in danger. “It is a situation that we have unfortunately experienced before, since the same thing happened in 2019 and 2021 in similar extreme weather events in the region,” the mayor points out.
Today levels of the technical service will perform an autopsy on the places where there was damage, while the municipal authority requests that the state respond immediately so that the necessary funding can be made to repair the damage.
