Koronovirus: 9 children are hospitalized with MIS-C syndrome in Ippokratio, Thessaloniki

At 8 in the morning of Tuesday, February 8, the Hippocratic Hospital of Thessaloniki completed its on-call time, with 25 admissions and 120 visits.

In accordance with Thesstoday9 children are hospitalized there, with mild symptoms multisystemic inflammatory syndrome, after coronavirus disease. In Greece, 100 children presented with this syndrome, which occurs 2-10 weeks after the acute infection. Everything was unvaccinated.

A small percentage need ICU

Children and adolescents are the age group with the lowest risk of serious illness and complications from SARS-CoV-2. They account for 1-8% of laboratory-confirmed cases and less than 1% of the total number of deaths. Most affected children remain asymptomatic or have mild clinical manifestations and recover within a few weeks. A small percentage of children, however, develop a serious illness that may require ICU admission.

Doctors draw attention to parents if their children develop symptoms from the respiratory, gastrointestinal or cardiovascular systems, haematological or mucosal lesions. At the same time, there is a characteristic increase in the markers of inflammation, anemia, lymphopenia and thrombocytopenia.
