The meeting of the Holy Community of Mount Athos, scheduled for Thursday, the second for this year, is postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the monastic state.
The Holy Supervision informed about the postponement, with its message, the representatives of the monasteries.
“Through this message we know that, due to the increased outbreak of the pandemic throughout Mount Athos (Holy Monasteries, Cells, Karyes, lay people, etc.), the Synaxis of the Holy Community on Thursday, 28.1.2022 (p. .p. February 10) will not take place “refers to the message sent to the representatives of the holy monasteries.
The previous, first for this year, solemn meeting of the body and the appointment of the representatives of the monasteries took place last Thursday, February 3. The next meeting of the Holy Community is expected to be scheduled for Monday, unless a new postponement is deemed necessary due to the pandemic.
The cases in Athoniada
Cases of the coronavirus are found during this period in four monasteries of Mount Athos and are treated with quarantine, but also in cells and shops in the area of ​​Karyes, as well as in the Athoniada School.
According to information, out of the seventy students of the Gymnasium and Lyceum of Athoniada, about fifteen are slightly ill and have been transferred and temporarily housed, in quarantine, in the seminary hostel in Karyes, under the supervision of curators.
During the winter, in the port of Ouranoupolis, during the checks made for the crown, more than eighty-five cases of pilgrims and workers were found, who were going to Mount Athos and were not allowed to enter the Athonite state.
