The Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, told the Parliament that the actions have already started, in order to compensate the Greek state from the Novartis.
At the same time, he asked the SYRIZA MPs their opinion on the direct assignments of 9 million euros to EODY by the former Deputy Minister of Health, Pavlos Polakis.
“Is it the job of the deputies to request archiving acts and to make legal remarks on it? Does this honor you? How will you protect democracy? Will you take on the role of prosecutor? ” the minister wondered and added:
“I listened with particular interest to the positions of Mr. Papadopoulos. What do you have to say to your colleagues who do it and actually keep the blame and blame on the politician?”
Mr. Plevris also referred to direct assignments of EODY in the period 2016-2018 for security, amounting to 9 million euros, calling on his colleagues to take a stand.
“Part of these invoices for more than 1 year in the payment statement mentions ‘payment of Deputy Minister of Health Pavlos Polakis’! This is what the invoices say! The job of a minister is to transmit the data to ask the EODY to defend the public interest and he has no other job! Will you tell me about these 9 million direct assignments how they went? If you had found invoices with orders from the deputy minister of ND, what would you do? You would be on the benches! “Let justice do its job.”
Against the uninsured
Mr. Plevris also clashed with the former Minister of Health of SYRIZA, Andreas Xanthos for the health coverage of the uninsured.
The Minister of Health stressed that this was done during the Samaras-Venizelos government with a decision of the then competent minister Ad. Georgiadis.
He added that at that time a specific procedure was provided that allowed the treatment of immigrants only for emergencies.
“SYRIZA came and changed the law. You gave the opportunity to those who were illegally in the country to be treated at the expense of the taxpayers. Illegal immigrants had the opportunity to be admitted to hospitals on an emergency basis.
You gave them the opportunity to make regular visits. People living in neighboring countries came to Thessaloniki and Ioannina for surgery. “With the taxpayers’ money you did social policy and you are calling us for racism and xenophobia,” said Mr. Plevris, among others.
Responding, Mr. Xanthos admitted, among other things, that the law of ND – PASOK “did not provide care to immigrants without papers but by 95% to Greek citizens” and that this “institution after the law of 2016 shrunk”.
“Society cries out for your customer mentality. You can not come here and tell so many lies. The regulation for the uninsured was made by a law of SYRIZA. Georgiadi’s ministerial decision gathered people in the three-member committees to ask you. You asked for their vote to have surgery in the hospitals “, the SYRIZA MP said characteristically, adding in another point:
“During the Samaras Venizelos period, the health poverty in the country intensified. The institution of social medicine and social pharmacies grew, which did not provide care to undocumented immigrants but by 95% to Greek citizens. This institution has shrunk since the 2016 law. The result proves the coverage. There is also the indicator of health inequality. At the peak of the memoranda, in 2015 it was at 14.5%. We in 2019 delivered it at 8%. “This is a leftist and progressive policy.”
