Doctors are fighting to reduce the swelling in the girl’s brain
In critical condition he is still hospitalized in the ICU of the Venizeli Hospital of Heraklion the 17-year-old schoolgirl from Attica who suffered a seizure on Sunday morning after an allergic shock.
According to the Director of the ICU of the hospital, Mr. Anestis Kiulpalis, the allergic shock suffered by the minor after consuming a dairy product was severe. The girl, although she injected herself with the adrenaline she had with her she went into cardiac arrest.
Doctors fought to resuscitate her, but the girl’s brain was damaged as it essentially stopped working for more than 5 minutes.
As a consequence of this situation, the 17-year-old student suffered anoxemia, and as Mr. Kioulpalis explained, what is important now is for the swelling in the girl’s brain to subside.
Among other things, the Director of the ICU at the Venizelio Hospital of Heraklion stated:
“The child is intubated and in a condition that is stabilized in terms of vital functions. But the brain has signs, both clinically and from imaging, that it has suffered serious damage from anoxemia after the arrest.”
