The 19-year-old woman who was run over by a car last week in the village of Palaio Zygo, Xanthi, died at noon on Tuesday, at the General Hospital of Kavala.
The unfortunate girl was pulled over on Wednesday evening by a policeman driving an ELAS vehicle, as a result of which she was seriously injured and initially transported to the Xanthi hospital with severe brain injuries and then to the Kavala General Hospital, where she breathed her last.
According to confirmed information, initially the driver of the vehicle had notified EKAB and was waiting for the ambulance, but then he concealed his involvement in the accident, before his colleagues tracked him down due to the contradictions he had fallen into.
It should be noted that earlier on Tuesday morning, the family of the 19-year-old girl, with a statement released to the media by her lawyer, called on anyone who knew anything about the accident to provide the information to the authorities, in order to have a full clarification.
In detail, the family’s statement said:
“While our 19-year-old daughter is courageously fighting for her life in the ICU of the General Hospital of Kavala, we anxiously follow the investigation into the exact circumstances of her serious injury. We ask anyone who knows anything about the tragic event to contribute by giving information to the authorities that may help solve the case, as the smallest detail is capable of leading to the truth.
We sincerely thank all our fellow citizens who stand by us and offer their support. Their undivided support is a source of strength and comfort in these difficult times for our family. At the same time, we express our gratitude to the medical staff, for the superhuman efforts they make in these critical hours, to help our daughter.
Our complete trust in the Greek police and the judicial authorities is non-negotiable and we rely on their coordinated efforts, so that those responsible for what our child unjustly suffered will be brought to justice for their actions.”
