The electric future of Volvo

by

of Aris Galanopoulos

Volvo’s future is sure to be electric and the new Volvo C40 Recharge is the latest proof of its commitment to a zero-emission future. We had the opportunity to drive the new model on the streets of Belgium and have a first “quiet” experience.

The C40 Recharge has all the benefits of an SUV, but in a lower and more elegant design form. Based on the CMA platform, it is the first model in Volvo history to be designed exclusively as purely electric. The rear of the C40 Recharge has a striking design with a low roofline, while the front design launches a new face for Volvo electrics and includes headlights with state-of-the-art pixel technology.

The driving position
Inside, the C40 Recharge provides a high driving position, which we greatly appreciated. It is also the first Volvo car to use no leather at all. The dimensions and length of 4.4 meters “hide” a spacious interior and a comfortable trunk of 413 liters.

The C40 Recharge has one of the best infotainment systems on the market. Developed in collaboration with Google, it is based on the Android operating system. It offers consumers Google applications and built-in services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store.

The drive system consists of two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear axle, powered by a 78 kWh battery, which can be charged up to 80% in about 40 minutes. The combined performance of the two electric motors reaches 408 hp and in fact the acceleration from 0-100 km / h comes in 4.7 seconds. The estimated range of the car is around 420 km, a price that is expected to improve over time, as there will be wireless software upgrades.

The new Volvo C40 has started production at the Ghent factory, where they gave us a tour during the world presentation of the new model. The car is available in the Greek market and the Launch Edition starts at 55,988 euros, along with the state subsidy “I move Electric”. It is also worth noting the guarantee offered by Volvo Cars, which is eight years or 160,000 kilometers for the battery.
