by

The three Albanian nationals who sat in the bench with the main accusation of this escape were found guilty late today, Monday morning, by the self-imposed court of Chania, of their escape from the detention centers of AD Chania.

Following a trial that began at 4 pm and ended shortly after 10 pm, the court sentenced one defendant (29 years old) to 42 months in prison and the other two defendants to 34 months – one 34 years old and the other 32 years.

The hearing was lengthy, as the court wanted to investigate all aspects of the case, the conditions of detention of the three convicts, the conditions under which they managed to escape and the possibility that there were accomplices in their practice.

The three Albanians, who in the early hours of Monday, together with two other foreigners, had escaped from the detention centers of the Chania police department, were arrested the same night in a central part of the city of Heraklion, from where they were transferred to Chania. At the same time, investigations are underway by the police authorities to arrest the other two who had escaped from detention. The investigations concern a 35-year-old Pakistani national and a 32-year-old Albanian national.
