The needs of both fishermen Municipality of Kalamariaas well as the entire fleet of the wider area of ​​the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki, is to serve the Kalamaria Fishing Refuge, which will have a capacity of 83 commercial vessels.
At the shelter’s foundation ceremony, held today in his presence regional governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostasthe mayor of Kalamaria Yiannis Dardamanelis pointed out that the fishermen of the area, after forty years, will have their own house.
“It is a project that we have all been waiting for, the fishermen who welcome it with enthusiasm and relief, but also the citizens, as it includes a very beautiful land zone next to the sea, about thirty acres, which was granted to our municipality and will be a pole of attraction , for residents and visitors” he emphasized and thanked the Region for the cooperation and the Ministry of Rural Development for the funding.
The regional governor stressed, for his part: “in the coming years, Kalamaria will play a leading role, because it is a geographical piece of land that is at the heart of what we have envisioned, the new beachfront of Thessaloniki.”
Throughout the foundation ceremony, horns were sounded from the grigrs lined up in the sea.
The fishing shelter will be a new port project infrastructure in the Municipality of Kalamaria, which is expected to strengthen the existing fishing activity and the prospects of young entrepreneurship in the sector. Its construction is expected to be completed in a year and a half and its cost is estimated at 6,600,000 euros.
