Distinguished historian Eleni Glykatzi-Arveler expresses her certainty that Alexander the Great and not Philip II is buried in Vergina in an interview with ERT.

The distinguished Byzantine scholar, against the prevailing opinion of Greek archaeologists who have been investigating the soils of Vergina for a long time, claims in her book “Alexander the Great of the Byzantines” that the tomb of the so-called Philip II belongs to Alexander and not to his father.

Speaking in the Polistism Notebooks, the first female rector in the 700-year history of the Sorbonne University and for a time President of the Center Pompidou in Paris, appears unmoved in her opinion stating: “I think it’s the only real, big thing I’ve done. I am so sure.”

Here is the passage in question:

Q – Mrs. Arveler, why do you think that for so many years that you have been putting this issue in the public debate, Archaeologists have not embraced it? Your position is heard, as a person you have great influence. Are these arguments, for the experts, not sufficient?

Un – It is not allowed for at least 50 years that the Greek archaeologists have Alexander and have never looked at it.

Q – Are you implying that so many archaeologists do not admit it in order not to show a timeless deficiency in the interpretation and analysis of the data?

Of course…

Q – Do you really believe that your position will be vindicated?

A – When the next generation of archaeologists comes, from those who were in the excavation and when I am no longer alive…

Q- You emit a need to repeat that the so-called tomb of Philip belongs to Alexander the Great…

A – I have a need. I think that it’s the only real, big thing I’ve done. I am so sure.
