How one 41-year-old career Coast Guard officer, originally from Crete, was found to have a pivotal role in a criminal coca-trafficking network, which was defended by a 71-year-old prisoner, known by the nicknames “aunt” or “chubby” of Korydallos prisons? Why did an officer who had, as his colleagues say, a bright future in front of him, get involved in such a case, in a “contrary role” with his status and position? How can it be that a “fighter” of drug trafficking rings is now credited with acting as a “Trojan Horse” of the criminal organization commanded by the elderly inmate.

This man was not only the head of a critical service, he was solely responsible for the strictly guarded area where the seized quantities of drugs were kept. And it is really of particular interest the explanations he will give for what is heavily attributed to him as well as to his subordinates.

But let’s see how the tangle of this serious case unfolded:

October and November 2023 included, according to Cretalive informationto the Internal Affairs service, complaints regarding the activity of a criminal group involved in the trafficking of narcotics in the Piraeus area, with the participation of a 41-year-old port officer who serves in the Narcotics Prosecution Department of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus and private inmates of Korydallos prisons.

This information was assessed as particularly serious and thus the status of the connections was activated, removing the telephone privacy of the communications of the people involved and recording their activity.

Journalistic sources indicate that the collection and correlation of the communications in combination with other important material (record of activity outside the residence, affidavits, searches in electronic databases, correspondence with other agencies) resulted in the existence of a criminal group, operationally structured and with continuous action, consisting of more than three persons, the members of which at least since March 2023 formed a criminal organization for the sole purpose of trafficking cocaine.

It is estimated that during the period under investigation by the Internal Affairs service, the ring trafficked 14.5 kilograms of coke, with profits exceeding one million euros.

A female prisoner is brought as the leader 71-year-old Korydallos prison whose orders were obeyed by everyone. Without her consent, nothing was done. He took the highest self-protection measures, talked with passwords from prison payphones, provided Keratsini with space as a kavaza, and at the same time he had taken care to develop a network that would serve the interests of the organization from scratch to the end, that is, from the initial procurement to the final trafficking.

The 41-year-old harbor ensign is charged, according to the Hellenic Police, as a member of the criminal organization that was tasked with the role of the main supplier of drugs while serving in an operational department of the Coast Guard.

The 41-year-old Cretan officer, who with his involvement in the case has shocked, is also alleged to be a member of the criminal organization and is even credited with providing the necessary cover and access to the other port officer and his subordinate from his position which was pivotal. He was the head of a nerve agent and the man who was solely responsible for guarding the area with the seized drugs.

It is attributed to him that he was aware of a home search carried out by the other port officer, without however taking the legally prescribed actions. It is also attributed to him that on December 16 he provided his subordinate with the necessary access to the warehouse of narcotics where, during a raid by the officers of the Internal Affairs Service, the sacks containing confiscated narcotics and normally destined for destruction were found to be tampered with.

During their conversations, which they conducted through telephone connections registered to non-existent foreigners, they used specific passwords to make it difficult their decryption by the prosecuting authorities.

For example: “machines” were information, “phones” were quantities, “numbers” were money, “boil” was cocaine, “kittens”, kilos of cocaine.

It is worth mentioning that a team of the Internal Affairs service proceeded, in the presence of the 41-year-old Cretan officer, to perform an autopsy in the storage area of the seized drugs, which is guarded with the strictest means (iron bars, alarm with a special code, etc.). 14 sacks containing quantities of cocaine from four different cases were found, three of which were requested to be destroyed. Bags that were sealed by the State General Chemistry, were found to be tampered with.

The 41-year-old Cretan was solely in charge of the guarded area, the man who knew the security code, also holding the keys. Without his own presence, no one had the right to be in the warehouse area with the drugs. The Cretan officer reportedly gave the “free” only to his 41-year-old port co-accused. Internal Affairs officials believe that the officer gave the “green light” to his subordinate to go to the warehouse, while he occupied the only porter present outside the premises, leaving the field free for him.
