According to ELAS, the elderly man who was finally arrested and charged with dangerous driving, disrupting traffic safety and insubordination, he was arrested on his own following a chase by a patrol vehicle of the Athens Traffic Sub-Directorate, with the assistance of patrol cars from the Immediate Action Division.

The driver in question was driving in the opposite direction on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue at the height of its junction with Akadimias Street and when the police signaled him to stop, he developed speed and began to successively violate red lights, moving in the opposite direction on streets in the center of Athens, on tram lines and on the sidewalk, committing multiple violations of the Highway Code.

Throughout its movement, it was monitored by the official vehiclesin order to avoid the risk of causing a traffic accident with another vehicle or pedestrian, while at the same time he was constantly asked to stop the vehicle.

After passing through Kolonaki and Ampelokipi, the driver headed to Mesogeion Avenue, entered Attiki Odos where he ended up in the area of ​​Pallini, where he stopped safely.

In the context of the traffic control, he was confirmed with traffic violations for driving under the influence of alcohol, violation of a red signal, driving in the opposite direction on a one-way street, violation of a double dividing lane, etc. and tadministrative fines totaling 12,560 euros were imposed.

In addition, he was disqualified from driving for 1,160 days. he was given 175 points in the SESSO, the vehicle’s registration information (licence and number plates) was taken away for 400 days and the vehicle was impounded.
Yet, the prescribed procedure and notification of the competent authorities will be followedin order to remove the driver’s license for life.
The arrested person was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
