Volkswagen launches new wind farm in Sweden

by

Volkswagen aims for a completely carbon-neutral corporate environmental footprintby 2050. It will achieve this by implementing the “Way to Zero” strategy, which goes far beyond the limits of electrification.

It will work with “wpd”, a company that specializes in wind farms and invests in a similar project in northern Sweden. Volkswagen’s generated share in this wind farm will be approximately 100 GWh of electricityequivalent to energy covering 27,000 households for one year.

The wind farm in northern Sweden is being added to the recently announced Volkswagen photovoltaic plant in northern Germany. About 20 further green electricity projects will follow in countries such as Spain, the United Kingdom and Finland by 2025. In total, approximately seven billion kWh of green electricity is expected to be generated annually – energy that could meet the 600,000 requirements households.

On the way to a completely carbon-neutral corporate environmental footprint by 2050, Volkswagen aims to 40% reduction in CO2 emissions per vehicle in Europe by 2030, with a comparison year of 2018. This corresponds to an average of 17 tonnes less carbon dioxide per car in the atmosphere.
