Today, the administration of OSE and METKA ATE proceeded with the signing of a contract for the extension of the Suburban Railway in Western Attica, in the context of upgrading the country’s railway infrastructure.
The Agreement was signed by the managing director of OSE, Panagiotis Terezakis, and the vice-president and managing director of METKA ATE, Dinos Benroubis.
The total cost of the project amounts to 95,742,101.92 euros without VAT, with a revision estimate of 5,331,885.23 euros and a duration of implementation of 24 months.

In summary, the scope of the project concerns the construction of a single length line 36 km to the west of Athens, from Ano Liosia to the old Railway Station Megaronon the axis of the metric line of SPAPs.
The line will serve densely populated areas Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Nerakiu, Nea Peramou and Megaron.
In addition, it will also serve the industrial facilities of the ELPE Aspropyrgos and Elefsina, the Shipyards of Elefsina, as well as a significant number of other facilities.
The project concerns the renovation of the infrastructure of S.G. with new materials and its certification to the principles of interoperability and includes installation of a 25kV/50 Hz trolley-type overhead contact line system, installation of a signaling system with ETCS L1 with remote control and station information systems, telecommunications systems and E/M installations at the stations and stops of the project ( ELPE Aspropyrgos, Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, ELPE Elefsina, Loutropourgos, Nea Peramos, Megara (SGYT) and Paleos S.S. Megaron).
The final project will include electrification and signalling-remote control with connections to the High Speed ​​Rail Line (HSR).
So will connect Western Attica with Athens, Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, Piraeus and the rest of the railway network.
The project budget also includes the line branch to the old Megaron station, the construction of which is an option that is activated with the approval of the environmental conditions for the section in question.

On the occasion of the signing of the contract for the Western Attica Suburban between OSE and METKA, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, said: “The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has as its first priority the upgrading of the services provided in the Mass Transport. We work with a realistic plan, methodical and persistent, in order to build new projects and modernize the existing ones.
Today, with the signing of the contract between OSE and the company METKA, we are launching the implementation of the project to upgrade the existing Western Attica Suburban Railway, specifically the Ano Liosia-Neos S.S. Section. Megaron-P.S. Megaron.
The project concerns the construction of a new suburban railway branch from Ano Liosia to Megara, within the existing railway corridor of the old railway line to Peloponnese. Also, the new line will connect Western Attica with Athens, the airport “El. Venizelos”, Piraeus and the rest of the railway network.

For his part, after the signing of the contract, which took place at the OSE Building on Karolou Street, the managing director of OSE, Panagiotis Terezakis, said: “The railway construction project of the Western Suburban Attica that will connect Liosia with Megara is one of the most important and strategic projects of the Greek railway. This is a project financed by the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF), the tender of which was completed within 2023 as planned.”
Then the vice-president and managing director of METKA ATE took the floor, Dinos Benroubiswho noted: “It is my great pleasure that METKA ATE undertakes today another important infrastructure project, a project that will upgrade the quality of transportation for the residents of Western Attica.
