The “Night of Wishes”, the favorite custom of the festive season, returns this year to the “heart” of the city on Christmas Eve.
On Sunday 24 December at 18:00, the Municipality of Athens invites young and old to Kotzia Square, in an evening full of light, wishes and smiles, with the sky filled with hundreds of lanterns, composing one of the most magical spectacles of the holidays.
With the traditional paper – and biodegradable – lanterns a dream setting will be set up for another year in front of the City Hall. It is an institution that was established in the last 4 years, on the initiative of the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis.
In his statement, Mr. Bakoyiannis emphasized: “Like every year, on Christmas Eve, our meeting is in the historic center of the city, in Kotzia square for the magical “Night of Wishes”. We light the lanterns and send them to the sky making a wish for health, joy and optimism! Merry Christmas to all!”.
As the lanterns will flood the sky with their light, festive tunes will “travel” with them. The festive van of the city radio station Athens 9.84 will be in the square from 17:30, “dressing up” the event with the musical selections of producer Nancy Angelopoulou.
