A little less than 20 years have passed (29/7/2004) since the great Rena Vlachopoulou passed away.
The funeral of the great actress was held on July 31, 2004 at the First Cemetery of Athens and now, the time has come for her to return to her beloved Corfu.
As announced by the DIPETHEK, on ​​Saturday the transfer of her bones and their placement in the family grave of the First Cemetery of the City of Corfu (Garitsa) will be completed.

We would like to inform you that on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 4:00 p.m., the moving of the bones of the late, beloved actress, Renas Vlachopoulos, will be completed and their placement in the family tomb of the First Cemetery of the City of Corfu (Garitsa).
Those friends from the wider theater family and from the artistic world of Corfu, who wish, can attend and honor her memory.

With a modest and at the same time symbolic church ceremony, tomorrow Saturday 23/12 at 4 pm the moving of the bones of the Corfu actress Renas Vlachopoulos and their placement in the family grave located in the First Cemetery of the city in Garitsa will be completed.
The Mayor of M. Hydraiou, in kind cooperation and consultation with her late actor’s brother Spyros (who recently passed away), her nieces and with the contribution of our compatriot Konstantinos Georgatos, asked the Mayor of Athens Mr. Bakoyannis to allowed to transport the bones and bury them in Corfu.
The Mayor warmly thanks the Municipal Authority of Athens for accepting the joint request of the Municipality and the family to transfer the remains of Rena Vlachopoulos after approximately twenty years since her death to her birthplace.
He additionally stated the following: “As Mayor of Corfu, I considered it my duty to ensure that Rena Vlachopoulou, the most famous Corfu woman of the modern period who promoted Corfu like no other, with the consent of her family, rests in the sacred space of the First Cemetery Garitsa, among emblematic figures of our local and national history, but also among hundreds of lesser known and unknown compatriots. In the land he so loved, sang, performed and honored. In a difficult time, where happiness or even a smile is sought, she generously offered us unforgettable moments of happiness and laughter, but she continues and will continue to do so as long as we enjoy her films. The Municipality of Corfu under Mayor Chrysanthou Sarlis awarded the late Rena Vlachopoulos the highest distinction of the “Silver Medal of Corfu Merit”, and we consider that this highest honor is completed with the burial of her remains in the land of her birth, in her historic family tomb, among relatives , acquaintances, compatriots and lovers of our island. In our new Municipal Council, I intend to request the naming of a street or a square in her memory.”
The Church Ceremony will take place under the blessing of the representatives of our local Church and the priestly superior Fr. which she participated in during the funeral procession at the 1st Cemetery of Athens in the year 2004), with the presence and participation of the beloved nieces of Mrs. Kalliopi Vlachopoulos – Kousta and Irene Vlachopoulos, daughter of Rena’s late last brother Spyros Vlachopoulos, several of her fellow actors and artists, but also of the Corfu people.”
