Tomorrow, Friday December 29, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be present at the funeral procession of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, in Thessaloniki, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.

The exodus service will take place at 1:30 PM in the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios and his burial will take place in the cemetery of the Holy Church of the Resurrection of the Lord, in Thermi.

The 31-year-old policeman who was hit by a flare during incidents, outside the closed “Melina Mercouri” gym in Rentis, while the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos was being played, breathed his last yesterday at noon.

The flare had struck the unfortunate policeman in the left leg, finding an artery and causing him to bleed severely.

The seriously injured 31-year-old was rushed to the Nice General State Hospital, where doctors in an attempt to stop the bleeding had amputated his leg.

The police officer was then sedated in the ICU, while efforts by doctors last week to revive him were unsuccessful.

Unfortunately, the 31-year-old couldn’t stand it and ended yesterday.

The incidents took place on the evening of December 7.
