At the mercy of the Italian hunters is once again its wildlife Epirus and the hunting grounds of the area.
The absence of any control, despite the fierce protests of the last five years and the strong complaints, has resulted in the continued impunity of the Italians.
Their month of action is mainly February as the hunt is over in their country. Thus, excursions are organized to our country and mainly to the areas of Thesprotia and Preveza.
The phenomenon is known and history repeats itself.
These days another episode was recorded in a village of Thesprotia that comes to highlight the problem.
A group of six Italian hunters entered properties with stable facilities. The owners protested, the Italians left and their escort, of Albanian origin, got involved with the owners, as a result of which they all ended up at the Police Station and were sued.
Another incident was recorded in Stylida. There, Italian hunters were arrested by the ranger for setting up sniper rifles in snow-covered areas.
The rangers intervened and arrested them, confiscating the weapons, the prey and the hunting licenses they had issued to the Υπηρε Forest Service of Epirus.
The issuance of the license is legal and despite the problems that have been recorded by the way of action of the Italians, no service can be denied to them once all the documents required by law are submitted.
The Italians usually come in groups for a three-day period, which is even offered by a “package” of Greek tourist offices.
And there would be no problem if they chased with the rules and the framework that applies.
However, they always exceed the prescribed limits and when this happens, the hunt turns into minced meat so that they can return to their homeland without any problems.
What can be done?
To tighten the controls of the game guard and of course to make targeted controls in the hunting grounds chosen by the Italian hunters, especially in the Prefectures of Thesprotia and Preveza.
And that should have already happened.
