“It clouded my mind, when I found out she was dead I couldn’t think what to do.” These were the first words of the 62-year-old man who, for at least twenty days, lived in the same house with the corpse of his 88-year-old mother.

No one could imagine the… horror that hid in the apartment on the first floor of the apartment building located on Gortynias Street, in Amaliada.

According to patrisnews.gr, the neighbors of the unfortunate woman, who had seen her for several days, became worried. Their fears that something bad had happened were reinforced by the strong stench coming from the apartment. Immediately, they informed the police.

Local EL.AS forces arrived at the scene as well as the prosecutor, they knocked on the door with the son opening it for them and they were confronted with the macabre sight. According to police sources, the 88-year-old woman was dead on the sofa in the living room covered with a blanket. In fact, he was in advanced decay.

Her 62-year-old son was brought to the local police station in order to give his own answers about what exactly happened, with him answering the police that… he became confused when he realized that his mother was no longer alive, that he could not think how to react and that he could not explain everything that had happened. Always with the same sources, the 62-year-old man lived with his mother and father – who passed away a few months ago – in the apartment on the first floor, in the center of Amaliada.

He allegedly looked after them and took care of them, while as claimed by neighbors who spoke to “P”, they had never given any rights, and spoke of a good and loving family, even characterizing the unfortunate 88-year-old as a golden and kind-hearted woman.

Early yesterday afternoon, the body of the 88-year-old woman was transferred to the Forensic Service of Patras in order to perform a necropsy and to provide answers on the cause of death of the elderly woman, while the police continue their work, receiving statements from relatives and neighbors. The possibility of criminal activity has been ruled out.
