Heartbreaking moments at the funeral of the 31-year-old policeman Giorgos Lyggeridis, in the Holy Church of Agios Dimitrios in Thessaloniki.
“I endure, I endure. I am Lygge’s mother”his mother said Giorgos Lyggeridis, to a relative who hugged her to sympathize with her, outside the church and before the procession to the Thermi cemetery began. There the last act of the drama was written with his colleagues shooting in the air, shouting “immortal” and laying their berets on his grave.
The exit sequence of the 31-year-old police officerwhere died after 20 days of hospitalization in the ICU after being hit by a flare during the events in Rentis chanted in the church of Agios Dimitrios in Thessaloniki and there was a pandemic.
The Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki presided over the funeral procession, while his burial followed in the Thermi cemetery. The policeman’s body arrived there shortly before 4 pm, accompanied by dozens of police cars and patrol cars, while assembled citizens addressed an honorable salute to the young man who was so unjustly lost.
The Prime Minister was also present at the funeral of the young policeman Kyriakos Mitsotakis, but also the president of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis.

George Lyggeridis bravely fought for 20 days to stay alive after being injured by a naval flare who threw hooligans during episodes in Rentis. At the same time, the police have included in the investigation 25 people who participated in one way or another in the murderous attackbut also in the organization of the episodes.
The only 31-year-old MAT police officer breathed his last in the intensive care unit, a day after his birthday. Inside the church of Agios Dimitrios in Thessaloniki, the wreaths of his parents and that of his twin sister, Katerina, evoke emotion.
At the entrance of the church, the wreath of his grandmother, of George’s grandfather, who say goodbye to their grandson, of the prime minister with the modest note “with honor in respect”, of the president of SYRIZA Stefanos Kasselakis and dozens of wreaths from colleagues, relatives, friends and organizations. Honors are given by a member of EL.AS. while the body of Giorgos Lyggeridis was carried inside the church on their shoulders by his colleagues from his MAT platoon.
Funeral for the deceased police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis said the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Philotheos. “We call those who fall in the line of duty heroesas members of the church we can pray to the One who is the life and Resurrection of people to receive him in his loving arms and grant him eternal rest and the life of the Resurrection”, he said, among other things, at the funeral.
