The president of the hospital’s workers’ union, Voula Georgaki, gave her own explanation for the images that saw the light of day from the celebration at the “Red Cross” hospital. On the occasion of the EDE ordered by the Ministry of Health, the representative of the workers, Voula Georgaki, conveyed the discomfort of the staff for the dimensions the incident took.

As he mentioned in the morning speaking to OPEN on the occasion of the EDE ordered by the Ministry of Health, this is an event that has been held every year for years, the hospital was not on duty and the place was not related to emergencies.

“It is with regret that the hospital workers see this situation. It is unacceptable, insulting to the workers who have been turning their backs for years. It’s not like that. 18 years that I have been president and 35 years an employee at the hospital, every year this celebration is held between the management and the workers, singing carols. At 2 o’clock when the celebration ends, the workers asked two songs to dance to and we danced too. As for the stretcher, the lady asked to pass by to take part and hear the carols. Also, the space that was created is in the administrative services and has nothing to do with the emergency department. He was not on duty, it was a dead day” he added.

Asked if the same celebration was held during the term of Pavlos Polakis, who made the images public, Voula Georgakis answers: “Yes, we had this particular celebration every year, but well-wishers did not record videos and images. Or even if they recorded, they didn’t give them. We believe that it is no coincidence that the manager was renewed yesterday. And my personal position is that during the government of SYRIZA and the government of Mr. Polakis, the workers suffered 202 EDE, 40 people went to the courts, I personally went to the courts as a threat to the democratic state of the country”.

The hospital workers themselves claim that after the carols they asked the musicians to play 2 songs to dance. As they say, the music was not heard in the hospital rooms, while the patient seen on the stretcher had herself asked to attend the celebration.
