A fire broke out in the early hours of the morning on a KTEL bus, which was running the Athens-Thessaloniki route.

All passengers were safely removed from the vehicle, while a short time later they continued their journey with another bus that arrived at the scene to pick them up.

The incident occurred at the 304th kilometer of the Athens-Thessaloniki National Road, on the borders of the Prefecture of Magnesia, while the fire was extinguished by the fire brigade that arrived with four vehicles and eight firefighters.

KTEL THESSALONIKI S.A. will proceed to compensate passengers for the value of their tickets and any damage to their personal belongings, as stated in a statement issued by the company on the incident.

Specifically, the announcement states the following:

“On 12-31-2023, in the early hours of the morning, there was an ignition in the engine of an IRIZAR type intercity bus, running the route ATHENS – THESSALONIKI, with 16 passengers. The event took place in EO at the height of Almyros Volos. All passengers are in good health, there was no danger to their lives, no injuries. An incoming bus immediately picked up all the passengers, who arrived at their destination in absolute safety. Passengers will be fully compensated for the value of their tickets and any damage to their personal belongings. The details will be announced after a meeting of the company’s Board of Directors, on Wednesday 3-1-2024 and will be updated individually by the Secretariat. We apologize for the incident.”

No injuries were reported from the incident.
