“Let’s remember the value of community and solidarity in order to make Athens more creative without the inequalities that plague society” the new mayor of the city, Haris Doukas, called to the Athenians from the bright music scene that had been set up in Syntagma Square to welcome him new year and the fireworks extravaganza that followed.

Shortly before the countdown and the blinding explosion of the beautiful fireworks, the new mayor of Athens addressed the crowd of thousands of citizens in the square “in the heart of Greece at the Syntagma”, emphasizing: “So I welcome you so that we can all accept 2024 together with hope and faith that we can achieve our goals and do the possible even the impossible. It is a unique truth and an unprecedented experience for me to welcome the new year, here among you, at this time just before the new beginning.

“I invite you all to remember again the value of the community of solidarity. I invite you to believe in the small and big miracles that can be done if we all join forces. To make an Athens greener, more creative to reduce the inequalities that plague our society for the Greece we love and dream of. Here tonight on the threshold of 2024, let’s keep our dreams alive and work together to make them come true. May the new year make us all fairer and more united, more optimistic. The most beautiful journey now begins. Thank you”.

The beginning of 2024 was celebrated with wishes and fireworks that lit up the sky creating impressive shapes and colors, as well as with music, songs from the music scene, which had been set up two hours earlier with protagonists Nikos Portokaloglou and Marina Sattis and presenters Nancy Zampetoglou and Thanasis Anagnostopoulos.
