Ferrari: The legendary Testa Rossa J “wore” an electric motor

by

The Ferrari Testa Rossa J is a special-purpose car that enables Ferrari enthusiasts of all ages to experience the thrill of driving a legendary car. It is a new limited edition which is mainly aimed at collectors of classic cars. The Ferrari Testa Rossa J is a faithful reproduction of the legendary 250 Testa Rossa of 1957, one of the most emblematic and successful cars in the history of Ferrari and motorsport. It will be built on a 75% scale and the production of only 299 vehicles is planned.

It is powered by an electric motor. Ferrari led all aspects of the project, in collaboration with The Little Car Company, a company that specializes in the production of junior cars. Ferrari Styling Center in Maranello supervised the proportions and colors, while the chassis and other components were created using original design designs owned by Ferrari Classicche.

While the Ferrari Testa Rossa J is designed to be driven by people over the age of 14, it is not approved for off-road use. The main protagonist of the track in the 1950s and 1960s, the 250 Testa Rossa is one of the great Ferraris of all time, distinguished for its long list of distinctions and longevity. The car has won about 18 wins in its history and three championships in 1958, 1960 and 1961. It is also the only Ferrari to have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times – in 1958, 1960, 1961 and 1962. (taking into account 330 TR – the latest development).

To accurately recreate the intricate chassis of the 250 Testa Rossa, the original paper designs from the Ferrari Classiche Department were scanned and digitally recreated. The junior car maintains the same steering geometry and suspension, with the original model.

Ferrari Styling Center has designed a seat that accommodates an adult and a teenager, using high quality leather upholstery. The steering wheel is manufactured by Nardi, the same specialist company that supplied the 1957 model. The classic dials have been remade and redesigned for their new role in an electric car, but retain the original design and fonts. The oil and water meters now monitor the temperature of the battery and the engine, while the fuel meter is now the battery meter and the speedometer has become a speedometer.

The three batteries that power the electric motor are located in the front of the car and provide autonomy of about 90 km, depending on the driving style.
