The doctors point out that it is still too early to assess the course of his health, but the developments are very encouraging
The messages are encouraging arriving from the Neurosurgery Clinic of the “Gennimatas” Hospital regarding the course of the health of 34-year-old Dimitris, from Crete, who had been shot in the head, in Gazi early in the morning, on December 16, outside a club.
Information emerging from the 34-year-old’s treating doctors says that the sedatives have been stopped but even now their blood levels remain high. However the patient has started breathing on his own, without mechanical support, while he opened his eyes and seems to have elementary contact with the environment.
As the doctors point out, it is still too early to assess his course and his recovery, but the developments are very encouraging for the future course of his health.
Difficult surgery
The patient was operated on on December 18 by the surgical team of the “Gennimata” Neurosurgery Clinic with the help of a neuronavigation system which minimizes surgical brain damage.
We remind you that the projectile that Cretan had received had not exited the skull, but had remained stuck in his brain, as it had stopped on a bone, while there was only an entry wound. It was a very rare case and required a complex surgery, which the experienced team of “Gennimatas” carried out.
Dimitris’ brother, Giannis, was in the group of Cretans who was also shot by the “gunmen” in Gazi and since December 22nd he has been at home in Malia.
In the meantime, the manhunt launched by EL.AS is ongoing. for the 36-year-old gunman, who shot the three young men from Crete in cold blood. About 17 days after the bloody incident, the 36-year-old is still evading arrest.
