The doctors of the pediatric clinic of the general hospital diagnosed a 15-month-old infant who was taken by his parents with a fever on Tuesday (2/1) and a little while later he expired.

The hospital’s statement reads:

“We inform you that on 01/01/24 at 10:15 a 15-month-old male was brought to the emergency department (ED) of Ptolemaida by relatives with a fever.

A virus was detected, by carrying out a special influenza type A test and he was given treatment for the virus and recommendations due to immunosuppression due to his chronic diseases, to return to his home and to return upon worsening of symptoms.

The following day, 2/2/24, he was presented to the emergency department at 21:20 due to the persistence of the fever without his admission to the Pediatric clinic being deemed necessary. He was admitted to the clinic an hour later when he presented with a rapidly worsening clinical picture.

Despite the efforts of all the pediatricians and anesthesiologists who were called, as well as communication with the children’s NICU, it was not possible to transfer the infant to the children’s NICU to an on-call hospital in Thessaloniki due to his rapid deterioration.

A sworn administrative examination has been ordered by the Governor of the 3rd Health Region of Macedonia.
