The statistics concerning matters of road safety and traffic policing for the month of December 2023, in the territorial jurisdiction of the Police Directorates of Imathia, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria, Serres and Halkidiki published the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia.

In the territorial jurisdiction of the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia, there were 23 traffic accidents in December 2023, compared to 21 in the corresponding month of 2022.

In particular, the following were noted:

▪ 7 fatal accidents, compared to 3 in 2022.

▪ no serious traffic accidents, compared to 3 in 2022.

▪ 16 minor traffic accidents, compared to 15 in 2022.

Of the traffic accidents that occurred in urban and rural areas of the Police Departments, a total of 39 victims were recorded compared to 25 in the corresponding month of 2022. In particular, the following were recorded:

▪ 8 dead, compared to 3 in 2022.

▪ 2 seriously injured, compared to 3 in 2022.

▪ 29 slightly injured, compared to 19 in 2022.

The main causes of traffic accidents, as revealed by the police traffic investigation, were:

▪ Excessive speed

▪ Driving under the influence of alcohol

▪ Driver distraction

▪ Not using a safety belt / protective helmet

▪ The movement in the opposite traffic flow

▪ Using a mobile phone while driving

▪ The violation of priority

With regard to traffic policing actions, the Central Macedonian Traffic Police services are on constant alert, implementing a specific plan, which provides for road safety and traffic policing measures for the safe movement of vehicles and citizens, as well as for the prevention and prevention of accidents and mishaps throughout the road network.

In the context of traffic enforcement actions, in the month of December 2023, 9,144 violations were confirmed, among others, as follows:

▪ 5,102 offenses for excessive speed,

▪ 3,064 violations of commercial vehicles

▪ 311 violations for not using a seat belt,

▪ 207 offenses for K.T.E.O.,

▪ 145 offenses for driving under the influence of alcohol,

▪ 77 violations for illegal overtaking,

▪ 61 violations for not using a protective helmet,

▪ 58 violations for driving in the opposite traffic flow,

▪ 55 offenses for violating a red light,

▪ 24 violations for irregular maneuvers,

▪ 18 violations for violation of priority,

▪ 9 violations for driving in the left traffic lane or not driving on the right edge of the roadway,

▪ 7 offenses for not using child seats and

▪ 6 violations for illegally placed billboards.

The Hellenic Police, particularly aware of the issues of safe driving and road safety, in order to contribute to the reduction of road accidents, reminds all drivers and road users that road safety is everyone’s business.

In this context, drivers must apply the provisions of the Road Traffic Code, drive with prudence and attention and follow the instructions and advice of the Traffic staff.
