How the scammers stepped on her from the suspicious grandmother
God loves the thief, but he also loves the householder says a proverb and apparently after multiple hits by the fraudsters with the traffic police, in one case in Ghoul, they found their mastery.
LamiaReport last Friday (5/1), about barrage of phone calls from scammers in the area of Lamia was confirmed, with the specific cycle closing with three arrests of young Greek women in the area of the Peripheral of Agios Loukas!
The phone call from the fraudsters to an 83-year-old grandmother was made late at noon on Saturday (6/1). The script wanted the grandmother’s son to have caused a fatal traffic accident and the merciless swindler posing as the policeman, asking for 100,000 euros to get him out of trouble!
Unfortunately for him, the old woman was suspicious, but even more suspicious was her granddaughter who was at home at the time, who advised her to set a trap for the swindlers. So the 83-year-old asked for some time until she finally collected a sum of 30,000 euros in order to “save her child”. By the time the scammer contacted her again, she and her granddaughter had already notified the police.
Papers in the bag
The instructions the grandmother then received from the fraudsters were to put the money in a bag and give it to someone of theirs. The appointment was made near the house of the 83-year-old, where the grandmother left a bag filled with useless papers, instead of the coveted euros!
Indeed a young lady approached and took the bag then too was arrested by the police officers of the Lamia Security Sub-Directorate who discreetly monitored the area. Along with the “collector”, two other young girls who were waiting a few meters away in a car were arrested. They are three Greek women, two sisters from northern Greece aged 21 and 27, one a student and one 32 years old from Chalkida.
According to the report of LamiaReport they allegedly claimed that they had been hired by a foreign (Bulgarian in particular) fraudster to make collections without knowing exactly what money they were collecting. We remind you that a similar case is currently being heard in the Criminal Court of Lamia, with a 46-year-old Lamia woman who claims that she was “hired” by a fraudster to collect on his behalf 8,400 euros as a consideration supposedly for aluminum works.
A case of fraud in Livadia as well
In the case of the three Greek women, their involvement in another case of defrauding an elderly woman in the Livadeia area, on the same day and looting 20,000 euros, is also being examined!
The three young women were brought on Sunday to the Prosecutor’s Office of Lamia, where they were given a deadline to apologize before the Investigator.
