Italian media underline that yesterday’s image is “chilling” reminiscent of Mussolini – “Would we see these images in Berlin?”
Ceremony of Shame… A “memorial ceremony” organized last night by far-right organizations is causing an uproar in Italy, 46 years after the death of three young people in clashes with the police and other neo-fascist organizations. Participants in yesterday’s “ceremony” in the Tuscolana district of Rome made a fascist salute, which is known to be prohibited by Italian law. At the same time, raising their hands, they shouted “presente”, as is customary in these extreme gatherings.
The secretary of the center-left “Democratic Party”, Ellie Sline, announced that today will submit a question to parliament and will invite the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piandendozzi, to take a position on the incident. A similar initiative will be undertaken by the Greens-Italian Left alliance, which requests “to order the immediate dissolution of all neo-fascist organizations”.
The Italian media highlight that yesterday’s picture is “creepy” because it seems to come from some manifestation of the Mussolini regime, with the thousands of raised hands of those cheering, without a trace of critical thought, the fascist dictator.
“Would we see these images in Berlin?” an Italian rightly wonders in X’s comments. Mussolini’s ghost is here, another X user commented.
Saluti fascisti: giusta l’interrogazione parlamentare promotesa da @ellyesse. The images of the neofascist rally yesterday evening in Rome are impressive, terrible. L’apologia di fascismo è un reato, queste scene non possono passare nel silenzio generale. pic.twitter.com/foYDwXsZIz
