The electronic service is now available for all 13 regions of the country the lifting of withholding of ownership of a passenger or two-wheeled vehicle for private use, through gov.gr.

The new service concerns the cases of vehicles where the transfer of ownership had taken place in the context of pre-agreed partial payment of the price (installments) and now the entire price due has been paid.

It is a new service that significantly facilitates the daily life of citizens, while at the same time upgrading the transparency of the relevant process, which was implemented following the Joint Ministerial Decision of the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, the former Minister of Citizen Protection, Giannis Oikonomou, of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Transport, Christina Alexopoulou, who also signed the deed.

As stated in a relevant announcement by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, from today the citizens can apply to the Transport and Communications services of the Regional Units of the country for the removal of the withholding of ownership of a passenger car or motorcycle for private use (I.X), which arose in the context of a pre-agreed partial payment of the price (instalments) between the contracting parties, or between individuals, or between individuals and a legal entity.

Citizens can find the new service:

  • Either directly from gov.gr and the route Citizen and daily life / Movements / Removal of withholding of ownership of a passenger or two-wheeled vehicle for private use,
  • Either directly from https://drivers-vehicles.services.gov.gr.

They connect to the Taxisnet codes and register, in addition to the necessary details of the application, the unique identifier for the verification of the responsible declaration, via gov.gr, of the person withholding ownership or upload a certificate of and willingness to subsequent transfer of ownership. In the event that there are co-owners of the vehicle, the unique verification identifiers of the responsible declarations are registered, through gov.gr, of each co-owner through which they consent to the submission of the application.

Upon receipt of the new traffic permits the previous original license must be presented to the home address of the district to which the application was made. Citizens also have the possibility to authorize their representative to receive the new license.

The new service further contributes to the digital transformation of the transport sector and adds to a set of over 20 digital services implemented by the two ministries.

For these services, it was necessary for the public data registries to “talk” to each other with over 25 interoperability through web services. They are services that are completed by every citizen in a few minutes and have been used by more than 1,000,000 citizens.

Moreover, by digitizing all these processes, administrative burdens in 59 Transport Directorates are drastically reduced which employ more than 700 employees in the 13 regions of the country, saving valuable resources and working hours for the benefit of the citizens, but also of the public sector.
