The perpetrator was arrested for theft and damage to foreign property
In arson the fire that broke out last Monday is attributed to cell of monks in the “Archangeloi” area, near Holy Monastery of Stavronikita of Mount Athosfor the extinguishing of which the Fire Department attempted.
As perpetrator one is accused 63 years oldnational Romaniawho confessed his act.
He had been summoned by the police to give an explanation as a suspect of theft and damage to foreign property, after complaint who became a monk.
The 63-year-old reportedly reported that the fire was caused by a candle which he lit, when he entered the Cell and while he had already detected a smell LPG. The case file for the arson was filed by the Fire Service and will be forwarded to the Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office.
He himself, however, was arrested for the reported acts of theft and damage, while he was referred to be tried by the ex parte procedure at the Single-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki.
The indictment accuses him of trespassing twice during the last 20 days at the hostel next to the particular Cell, where he caused damage to furniture by removing – among other things – tools, a car key and a tablet.
