They were remanded in custody after confessing to the investigator for the murder of the pregnant woman in Thessaloniki
A prosecutor and an investigator “showed” the two men the way to prison who are accused of murdering the 41-year-old pregnant woman, whose body was found last Monday in a forest area near Monopigado, on the border of the prefectures of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki, one week after her disappearance, on New Year’s Day.
Her 39-year-old partner and his 34-year-old boyfriend, who are being prosecuted for murder with fraud in a calm state of mind, termination of pregnancy and robbery (jointly and in the degree of a felony), as well as for illegal carrying of weapons and use of weapons, during their marathon apologies – before the 4th regular investigator of Thessaloniki – they denied their responsibilities regarding the murder of 41-year-old Georgia. According to information, they pointed to each other as the perpetrator of the killer, whose motive was robbery.
“When I woke up in the morning I didn’t find her next to me”
Following his pre-investigative stance, the 39-year-old denied all the acts attributed to him, insisting that he is innocent. “I’m not going to confess to a crime I didn’t commit,” he reportedly apologized, responding to the coroner’s persistent questions about the circumstances of the death of the 41-year-old woman, who, according to forensic findings, suffered three fatal stab wounds to the cervical region and neck.
On the controversial New Year’s Eve, when, according to the case file, the crime was committed in the 39-year-old’s apartment in Kalamaria, he said that he had taken three pills and slept. “When I woke up in the morning I didn’t find her next to me” he reportedly said during his 2-hour apology, expressing his assessment that his friend killed the woman, after, as he said, he indicated to the prosecuting authorities the place where her body was abandoned.
When asked about the security camera footage showing the two defendants transporting Georgia’s lifeless body in a trunk-type suitcase, he seems to have replied as follows: “It’s definitely not me, maybe some unknown accomplice of the 34-year-old.”
Regarding the decision taken by the 41-year-old to terminate her pregnancy (she was in the 7th week of pregnancy and had scheduled a relevant medical appointment for 3/1), the accused, according to information, said that he disagreed and that the he himself wanted the child, adding that he accepted Georgia’s personal choice.
“The 39-year-old pre-planned the crime”
Earlier, his 34-year-old friend had crossed the threshold of the investigative office, who, apologizing for almost three hours, allegedly spoke of a “premeditated crime” on the part of his co-accused. As he had testified to the officers of the Crimes Against Life Department of the Thessaloniki Security, he agreed to participate in a “staged” robbery against the 41-year-old woman, which – according to his defense claims – the 39-year-old premeditated.
“I was there to stop her because I accepted his offer to do a fake robbery without Georgia getting hurt. When he took the knife in his hands he asked me to leave. I left the building and waited in the car. Then he came and told me that he killed her,” the 34-year-old allegedly apologized.
“Why I went to the Police”
According to the same information, he said that he was late in going to the Police to confess his involvement in the case, because he received threats from the 39-year-old. “He told me that if I speak I will suffer the same as Georgia” he reportedly told the investigator, adding that he decided to contact the authorities when he was informed about the 41-year-old’s pregnancy. “I found out from searching the internet that the woman was pregnant. This was the reason that prompted me to go to the authorities to testify,” he said.
The explanations given by the two defendants did not convince the prosecutor and the investigator who unanimously sentenced them to temporary detention. They were transferred to the Court House shortly after 10.30 in the morning, under enhanced security measures, while the procedure before the Judicial Authorities was completed at 5 in the afternoon.
