The Mayor of Athens started with the Municipal Market of Kypseli Harry Doukas was given a guided tour of the historic neighborhood today, Sunday, along with dozens of teachers.
The action is part of the program “The child, the city and the monuments”, which is implemented by the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Religion, under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
The experiential tour was given by the journalist and author Nikos Vatopoulos.
“We were here today, in the market of Kypseli, in Fokionos Negri for the excellent program “The child, the city and the monuments”, in which 400 schools, 800 teachers have already been involved and over 12 thousand students. We did an experiential tour with the excellent Nikos Vatopoulos, because he is a native of the area. We thank him very much. We saw many residents and talked with them. This amazing program will continue. As a new municipal authority, we will always be close to the children, to give them all the supplies they need, so that they can become tomorrow’s active citizens” said the Mayor of Athens.
Nikos Vatopoulos noted: “Today we had the opportunity to get to know Kypseli through an experiential walk and the great pleasure of having the Mayor of Athens with us. We walked through all the narrows in the direction of Fokionos Negri. We had frequent stops. And this was a mirror of the problems that the world faces, things that have to do with everyday life and quality of life. The aim of the program aimed mainly at teachers is to understand historical stratification Athena’s. We chose Kypseli as an eminently historic neighborhood that has gone through many historical perils. Today, I want to believe that there is a renaissance in some way in the area, a greater interest of the world in moving this district forward, and I believe that with a lot of work, Kypseli can acquire a quality of life that will be worthy of its path.”
“It is very important that the Mayor walks around the city like we do. The program aims to cultivate in the students of the schools of Athens the culture of the Athenian citizen. That’s why it’s addressed to the schoolgirls and students of the city who participate together with their teachers”, she emphasized Popi Diamantakou, coordinator of the program.
