Yiannis Christopoulos, the teacher and long-time municipal councilor of Kalamata, passed away during the night while being treated at the Kalamata Hospital. as reported by eleftheriaonline.
Yiannis Christopoulos was the director of the 10th Experimental Elementary School of Kalamata, which, following his proposal a few weeks ago, received the honorary name of Petros Themelis. He was involved for many years with local self-government and in general with political life and the area of the Center-Left, while he was also the secretary of PASOK of Messinia.
His funeral will take place tomorrow Wednesday at 11 am. in the church of the Holy Trinity of Kalamata and will be followed by the burial in his place of origin, Avlona Messinia. The president of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, will also attend his funeral.
In an announcement about the death of Yannis Christopoulos, Mr. Androulakis states:
Today I lost a precious friend.
A great teacher, who opened bright paths to knowledge for hundreds
young people.
A fighter, who fought with selflessness and dignity
all the ideological battles of the democratic faction.
Yiannis Christopoulos made the 10th primary school of Kalamata a model,
who so loved, and served with integrity and ethics the trade union
movement and its fellow citizens from positions of responsibility.
I bid him farewell with deep respect and thank him for honoring me with friendship and
his love.
