Letter of the Panhellenic Medical Association to the Minister of Health
THE Panhellenic Medical Association (PIS), with a letter to the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis about issue of vaccinations against covid-19 by pharmaciesraises a number of issues that have to do with both safety of vaccinations, as well as with issues of an economic nature.
Particularly, The PIS, on the occasion of the lack of vaccinations primarily for covid-19, poses the following questions to the minister:
“Vaccination culture, leading to sustained, timely and consistent vaccination coverage is cultivated through the doctor-patient relationship of trustprimarily, and secondarily, through continuous promotional actions to the general public, at an appropriate time, with a clear message and repeatability.
Vaccinations for covid-19 to date are carried out in an environment of absolute security within structures (public and private) in the presence of a doctor and after taking a history.
The most vulnerable groups of the population are vaccinated at home with a waning schedulewhile it should be strengthened by looking at the vaccination record to remind, encourage and carry out a booster dose.
Moreover, until today vaccinations for covid-19 are carried out with zero financial burden for the vaccinated”.
The PIS states that “the thoughts that were publicly expressed about carrying out these vaccinationswithout the participation of the medical world and for a fee, we estimate that they will bring results contrary to those intended, if they are implemented” and notes: “After all, only the conditions of “education” before carrying out vaccinations in pharmacies and legislative regulation will have a negative effect, as it becomes clear that “young people on stage need rehearsal”, for tasks that do not arise from the academic subject of their studies and include assessing patients and dealing with any unfortunate events”.
He adds that “it is certain that in our country the only vaccinations that are carried out seamlessly and successfully, in terms of breadth and timeliness, are those under the sole responsibility of doctors. Truth, which the State ignores from the abolition of the prescription of the flu vaccine in 2022, despite the negative performance of this unscientific measure”.
It ends up remaining at the disposal of the Minister of Health so that any designs perform according to the dictates of science, for the benefit of patients, as well prevention is always better than cureboth in medicine and politics.
