The participation of the Municipality of Heraklion in the appeal process to the Council of State, as proposed by the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece – K.E.D.E., with the aim of canceling the withholding of resources due to the Environmental Fee (burial fee) by the Central Administration, unanimously decided by the Municipal Committee of Heraklion which met under the Presidency of the Mayor Alexis Kalokairinou.

In particular, the Municipal Committee decided on the appeal following the decisions of the Board of Directors. of K.E.D.E. according to which the legal and judicial handling of the matter before the Council of State is considered necessary. It is worth pointing out that no expense is caused to the Municipality of Heraklion, given that the costs of the appeal are covered by K.E.D.E.. The first meeting of the Municipal Committee was held in an atmosphere of consensus and cooperation in the presence of all its members and officials of the Municipality, at noon on Tuesday 16/1/2024 in the “Eleftherios Venizelos” hall, while the issues of the meeting were approved in their entirety. At the beginning of the meeting, the process of electing the Vice-President of the Committee was held, a position intended for a Councilor of the opposition, for which Municipal Councilor Antigoni Andreaki was nominated, and she was elected unanimously.
