The Glyfada Security Department proceeded to dismantle a gang that systematically committed thefts of building materials from newly erected buildings in areas of Attica.

In particular, a 56-year-old man was arrested the day before yesterday morning in Glyfada and a case file was filed against him and against other criminals who are wanted, for forming a gang and distinguished cases of theft by complicity, by profession and by follow-up.

Earlier, according to ELAS, the 56-year-old used a truck to transport a lot of building materials in order to sell them to other people in the Glyfada area.

Called immediate action police officers found the accused in possession of the construction materials in question and took him to the Glyfada Security Department in order to investigate their origin.

As emerged from the police investigation, at least since May 2023, the 56-year-old, together with other accomplices, had set up and joined a criminal group-gang with continuous activity in the theft of building materials from newly erected buildings in areas of Attica.

As for the gang’s modus operandi, its members, during the afternoon and evening hours, would enter newly constructed buildings and remove various types of building construction, which they would immediately sell for a large financial profit.

It is noted that for the transport of the building materials from the construction sites, they used trucks as well as a vehicle specially made for the transport of the dead.

From the preliminary investigation, 5 cases of theft using the same methodology from buildings in Voula, Vari, Nea Kifisia and Nikaia were discovered.

The stolen goods found in the 56-year-old’s truck were returned to their owners, while the truck was seized as a means of committing criminal acts.

The arrestee, who has been arrested repeatedly for similar offences, has been referred to the relevant prosecutor, while investigations to fully ascertain the extent of the gang’s criminal activity continue.
