A substitute teacher was attacked by a student during class
Another incident of violence took place in a school in Rethymno, and more specifically, a substitute teacher was attacked by a student during the lesson.
At the same time, the ELME of Rethymno issued a statement stating that it stands in every moral and practical way by the side of the deputy who was brutally, as she describes, attacked by a student at a school in the prefecture of Rethymno during the lesson.
At the same time, the ELME of Rethymno “calls on any colleague who may have faced or is facing any form of aggressive behavior or pressure, from parents, students, management staff, etc., to contact the union immediately. Our support, moral, legal, trade union, must be taken for granted.”
It is noted that parents and teachers are greatly concerned by the rapid increase in cases of adolescent violence in the schools of Rethymnon, according to neakirit.gr, as recently children between the ages of 12 and 18 show delinquent behaviors.
The following is the relevant announcement:
“Regarding the incident of an attack on a colleague by a student
The Board of Directors of ELME Rethymno stands in every moral and practical way by the side of the fellow deputy who was viciously attacked by a student in a school in the prefecture of Rethymno during class.
As has been pointed out many times, the normalization of violence, the absence of psychologists and social workers, the understaffing of support structures, the removal of the Greek school from the arts and social sciences and other factors, combined with the targeted and methodical discrediting of the teacher in our country, they create fertile ground for violent phenomena, from parents or students, which are not just “isolated”.
Especially for fellow substitutes, who are often called upon to take over long after the start of the school year, serving in two, three, or even more schools, and are called upon in a short time from getting the material out to meeting their students, the educational reality is even more harsh and difficult. We, as a union and individually, must practically be on their side.
The Board of Directors of ELME Rethymno invites any colleague who may have faced or is facing any form of aggressive behavior or pressure, from parents, students, management staff, etc., to contact the union immediately. Our support, moral, legal, trade union, must be taken for granted.”
