Hundreds of checks in many areas of Attica, which led to the imputation of almost 300 violations of the Road Traffic Code, were carried out by the Traffic Police in Attica in the early hours of Friday and Saturday, as the Police are scaling up their efforts to prevent and deter criminal behavior on the roads.

According to information, in the evening and early morning hours of the two days, checkpoints were set up on key roads, such as Vasilissis Sofias, Mesogeion, Syngrou, Karamanli and Varis Koropiou avenues, in central parts of Athens such as Syntagma Square and Monastiraki, but also in many other streets of the capital.

A total of 291 violations were confirmed, 10 misdemeanors were charged, almost 40 driver’s licenses and more than 30 driving licenses were revoked, while the immobilization and towing of vehicles amounted to 38.

The police officers, who were instructed to check everything, identified dozens of types of violations. Bus lane encroachment, drink-driving and illegal parking were more common, with the Traffic “account” including six arrests under the law which provides for penalties for valets, owners and shopkeepers who arbitrarily abuse public space. space.

Incidents of not wearing a seat belt, speeding, not wearing a helmet, and driving without a license or car insurance were also found, among others.

ELAS officers note that the intensified checks will continue, with the aim of reinforcing respect for the Road Traffic Code and increasing road safety.
