Nikos Hardalias focuses on extroversion, shifting the center of gravity to the promotion of the largest Region of the country in the international tourist markets
The changes in the field of tourism policy of the Attica Region by the new administration are sweeping, as Nikos Hardalias has drawn up a holistic strategic plan for its emergence as a leading destination worldwide.
According to information from APE-MBE, there are two main axes of the new planning for the next five years.
The first has to do with highlighting the brand name of Athens as a major advantage of Attica, as it has established itself as the most recognizable landmark in the world traveler’s consciousness.
In this context, Nikos Hardalias includes in the tourism policy the targeted utilization of the unique cultural imprint of Attica, but also of its agri-food products – two sectors that until now were promoted piecemeal and individually – which implies the direct cooperation of all competent services of the Region on the common goal.
The second axis has to do with the improvement of everyday life through infrastructure projects, the functionality of the road network, strengthening of security and protection of the natural environment, so that the tourist visits an Attica worthy of the image he has formed in his mind. As the governor of Attica points out to his interlocutors, “no tourism policy can be successful if the visitor does not have easy access to the main points of interest or faces a miserable daily life”.
In this light, Nikos Hardalias focuses on extroversion, shifting the center of gravity to the promotion of the largest Region of the country in the international tourist markets. Markets that the government is focusing on to boost tourism flows with direct flights and other facilities, such as Shanghai and New Delhi, are expected to be under the microscope. And in the projects under consideration, the Region of Attica is “present” both through “twinning” (through memorandums of cooperation) and through targeted communication campaigns in the local markets. “We will not be at the tail end of developments, we are opening new paths. We will be the frontline of the national tourism policy”, is the message of the governor of Attica.
