Angry farmers threw milk in the central square of Larissa – The answers they got from yesterday’s meeting did not cover them
The farmers of Larissa who earlier today held a protest in the central square of Larissa expressing their anger and indignation are going to the Platykampos junction.
According to larissanet.gr, the farmers poured milk in the central square, while the statements made show that they expect clear commitments from the government.
He stood by them the regional governor of Thessaly Dimitris Kouretas.
In his speech, among other things, he said that Thessaly is forgotten and agrees to the demands of the peasants. At the same time he emphasized that everyone must push for the State to care about Thessalybecause it is like a province that just out of WWII: “We the road can close it at any time. If they think we will be afraid of the police, they are laughing…” the farmers clear from the Central Square shortly before the start of the agricultural rally.
The answers they got from yesterday’s meeting did not cover them with him agricultural trade unionist, Christos Sideropoulos to note that they will wait for answers until Saturday with the completion of Agrotica by the Prime Minister, throwing direct shots at the management by Minister Lefteris Avgenakis:
For his part, the agricultural trade unionist, Giorgos Mahas, emphasizes that there must be changes in the new CAP:
The farmers’ blockades remain in Stefanovikio and Almyros
At the same time, the rest of the farmers continue their mobilizations. According to magnesianews.gr. the blockades in Thessaly remain combative and are reinforced daily with new tractors. The Coordination Committee of the Block of Karditsa decided to call the rest of the blocks that have been set up in the area (Platykambou Larisa, Zarkou Trikala, Stefanovikiou Magnesia and Almyros Magnesia) to a panthessal coordination meeting, on Tuesday, JANUARY 30 at 7:00 pm. in Palamas in order to take steps to coordinate and escalate the just fight for survival.
As stated in the announcement, the necessity of coordinating the blocs arises from the very problems of the farmers in the region and also from the common goals of the struggle. Along with the exorbitant production costs that have reduced their income, the Thessalian farmers are in a difficult position, since especially this year they have to deal with the tragic results of the September floods, which as it turns out is not another disaster, but huge blow with devastating consequences. The compensations given are not enough to cover even the cultivation costs, the damage restoration projects and the anti-flood shielding of the area are delayed.
At the same time, the “reconstruction” plan of the region, promoted by the government and the regional authority, heralds new disasters, since it follows the well-known cost-benefit logic, while at the same time promoting changes in land use and agricultural cultivation, with the aim of concentrating land in fewer hands, the further commercialization of water, compulsory private insurance and various investment projects in the context of the “green transition”.
But also the new CAP has brought big cuts to basic supportwhich shows that it is a tool to speed up the elimination of thousands of peasant farmers.
