Criminal prosecution against 15 employees of ERGOSE for the Tempe accident, the Larisa Appeals Prosecutor’s Office filed a few hours ago.

These are managing directors, board chairmen and board members of the organization in the period from 2016 to the time of the accident in February 2023.

All 15 are charged with the felony count of obstructing the safety of transportation by acts, omissions, and commissions, and the misdemeanor counts of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and aggravated assault.

The prosecution came at the suggestion of the appellant investigator who has been investigating the case of the accident since last March, and concerns the contract for the restoration of the Signaling-Remote Control System of the Athens-Thessalonica-Promahonas railway section, i.e. the infamous contract 717, and the non-implementation at the time of the commission of the offence.

We remind you that the contract was initially signed in 2014 with an implementation horizon of 2016, but due to the many extensions that were given, on February 28, 2023, when the two trains collided, the elements foreseen in it, such as the operation of the remote control and the light signaling, had not yet been implemented .

The absence of the specific systems on the night of the tragedy is pointed out both by the opinion of the government’s Committee of Experts and by the opinion of the experts appointed by the judicial authorities.

In the next few days, it is expected to determine the order in which those involved will be asked to testify to the investigator, bringing the total number of those who have been prosecuted for the accident to 30.
