New information emerges about the hole that opened in the arcade of Bit Pazar in Thessaloniki on Saturday night and resulted in the injury of two 19-year-olds.

“A few years ago there was a study for the renovation and restoration of the complex, but it was not done because the service of newer monuments sets some conditions that the owners do not accept”, as stated by Prodromos Nikiforidis, Deputy Mayor of Technical Works.

The 19-year-old is still hospitalized in Gennimata’s surgery but is not in danger, with her boyfriend having been discharged.

Bit Pazar is a private space between apartment buildings. Antique stores operate in the morning, and health stores in the evening. In total over 350 owners are involved.

The injury to the two young men caused the intervention of the prosecutor who asks to investigate whether the offenses of dangerous bodily harm by omission or danger to a person have been committed.

The prosecutor also requests that an autopsy be performed on the site, that the ownership status be checked and that an expert report be drawn up on the stability of the building.
