The bustling Arlete Bar e Mercearia, in lower Pinheiros, gained a kind of younger brother, Momokuri. The restaurant, which opened for a soft opening in December, has a very different approach to its neighbor and serves cold and hot Japanese dishes, as well as Asian-inspired drinks.
The new address belongs to Mônica Cury, owner of Arlete. A fan of Japanese cuisine, she says she always wanted to open an izakaya. Momokuri, however, leaves aside the closed environment and darker tones typical of these establishments to place tables on the sidewalk and lighter colors in the minimalist decor.

On the menu, the highlight is the hot snacks. One of the best is the wonton, a dumpling filled with pork (R$47 per portion) or shrimp (R$54), served over a slightly spicy peanut and chili sauce.
Another suggestion is the katsu sandovo (R$45), a sandwich made on soft Japanese sliced ​​bread, with omelet and cabbage salad. There are also classics such as ramen (R$54), with broth seasoned with soy sauce or miso, plus pork, egg, bok choy and chives, and gyoza, stuffed with vegetables (R$32) or pork (R$36) .
The cold section lists sashimi trios and sushi duos, such as tuna (R$33), salmon (R$33), buri (R$31) and scallop (R$56), and tuna or salmon tartare with roe of massago and ponzu sauce (R$71).
The menu should grow after Carnival, when the restaurant should also start opening for lunch and serving via delivery.
To drink, the menu features Japanese beers, wines, sakes and whiskeys. The signature cocktails feature Asian influences, such as the samurai (R$33), a sake caipirinha with kiwi, apple and ginger, and the chu cha hai (R$33), which combines shochu, black tea syrup and lemon and club soda .
Drinks accompany the music program that will fill the izakaya. During the pandemic, at the end of 2021, Cury says, the property next to Arlete became vacant and she rented the space. While she wasn’t occupying the annex with a new business, she started organizing parties there. Clubbing resumes this Saturday, the 3rd, from 5pm, with a set by DJs Arturo, Giu Viscardi and Emiliano Beiruth, catching the wave of Carnival.
