Appeal to citizens from Civil Protection not to move to the area
Incredible images were captured on Lasithi plateau. The snow that fell in the previous days in the area melted, but the water it left behind brought problems.
The plain of the Lasithi Plateau has turned into an expanse of mudwith the ground being wet to such a point that it “recedes” trapping vehicles.
In the area of Agios Ioannis, the vehicles of producers who wanted to get to their crops got “stuck” in the mud, while the machinery of the municipality that was mobilized to extricate them, almost came to a standstill.
For the area of the plain, the Civil Protection has issued a notice, according to which the movement of the visitors of the municipality to the area is prohibited for the winter, while at intervals the citizens are also informed about the roads where traffic is prohibited with relevant markings.
However, there are not a few times that drivers ignore the signs and move to dangerous places, as a result of which it is often necessary to mobilize the mechanism of the municipality to extricate them.
The mayor of Lasithi Plateau appeals to the citizens to follow the instructions of the Civil Protection, according to which the plain is closed for 15 days and not to move in the area until the ground “dries”, as any movement at this time is very dangerous.
It is recalled that a flood control project is being carried out in the area, which will provide a solution to the problems brought by the rains and snowfalls on the Plateau.
