The bill, according to what the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis has said so far at the press conference, will include 200 articles in which, among other things, it is stipulated that the institutions:

  • They gain greater flexibility in establishing, merging and abolishing departments with the agreement of the Independent Higher Education Authority.
  • A funding mechanism for innovative ideas is being created.
  • Frees public higher education from red tape.
  • The Democritus University of Thrace is being upgraded with the establishment of new departments and new study programs.

“70% of the bill refers to public universities and about 30% to the establishment of non-state universities”the deputy minister to the prime minister and government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, pointed out last night, speaking to ERT.
